Couldn’t help but laugh at this great cartoon by The New Yorker! In my early days in Digital, I witnessed an attitude that saw traditional marketers really grit their teeth when faced with a Digital Strategy. It was almost as if they were trying to “weather” the internet revolution instead of embracing it!
Thankfully, we’re now seeing a sizeable shift with companies investing more in digital and viewing it as part of the wider marketing armoury rather than in a silo or as a strategy after-thought.
I’d like to think this is a result of companies getting excited about the possibilities of Digital by the great creative work being carried out by the industry, rather than a resignation of traditional values. Marketers should get excited at the prospect of tackling a challenge with a creative digital solution instead of feeling intimidated by “the internet”.
In the eternal words of M.F. Ryan,
“Each of us has the opportunity to change and grow until our very last breath.
Happy creating.”
